Alison's shoot was uber memorable, not only because of her 'wowsers-golly-me-oh-my!' beauty, but also because she left her session with an extra special skip in her step, a skip that only my clients can fully understand (me applying the bad copy drama). ;)

Alison is one of those women who has just about every good gene in her pool on her side-nobody peed in her pool. From amazing hair, to kickin curves, to luminous skin, she has what brings out the "grass in greener" complex in many of us. As in "I wish I had lady lumps like hers" complex.

Anywho, Alison was nervous about how her body would photograph, as are most women, myself included (note: I'm talking about myself in photos, not you ;) ). Of course nervousness is natural, and I have to say, I'd honestly would be surprised, and maybe even a little worried, if someone came in 100% giddy about the being strictly skivey. And, as always. . . , I digress. . .

However Alison's body worries strike you, we can not discount her feelings--they are hers and if she feels them, they are real, regardless of what we see. Nothings worse that being told that your fears are inconvceivable.

Something I've learned in my time as boudoir photographer: Even Hot Girls Get the Blues. Girls without cellulite, girls without muffin tops, and those that do, all suffer from some form of body related anxiety.

What I'm trying to get to here is to let you know that Alision left my studio fully aware of just how fab that gene pool of hers is--showing her multiple images on the back of my camera really drove that home.

Okay, before you think I'm being all self-congratulatory and such, I have to clarify: Yes, Lauren and I are good at what we do, but what we do is created from the faces and bodies of real women, not models. So if women look good in their photographs, they are responsible for that--I just document what I see.

After her shoot Alison gave us one of the most heart-felt thank yous we've ever received. We were all a bit choked up.

Moral of my story:

Meeting Alison reminded me how thankful I am that while having so much fun, being creative and working with super cool ladies, I also get to show said ladies how beautiful they are.

I've said this a gazillion times, but recalibrating women's perception of themselves is my trademark.

I'm a big fan of the old adage "less is more," especially when it comes to boudoir photography. Yes, we all have boobies and other bits but keeping them revealed is so much sexier, I think, especially in this age of reckless (I'm thinking Girls Gone Wild) immodesty.
I love the idea of 'implied' nudity and sexuality--there's tension in those things and as we all know, tension makes things. . . . well, . . . . tense, in a good sort of way.
This is precisely why I do not display boobies and other bits on my website or blog. Less is more.
Exhibit A: This image of the lovely tressed Kinsey would have lost that 'girl next door' allure if all of her was showing.
Again, I reiterate, less is more, with most things.

Being my own boss means I make very important, hi-level decisions on a daily basis, decisions like choosing a business mascot. All sound and well-rounded business plans must include a mascot, especially in this economy.
I want you all to know, I have made this decision. Meet Fritz, my dog, and the only male allowed in the studio.

When Fritz first entered the studio world he had a steep learning curve ahead of him--the world of lingerie, photography, posing and champagne is a challenging one, only those with extreme fortitude need apply.
Here Fritz ponders an important question, "garters or no garters?"

Michaela came to the studio a while back and she instantly became my it-girl. This Navy Air Traffic Controller might want to reconsider her day job because she's a natural in front of the camera and she'd never done a photoshoot before. She's also absoluteley gorgeous and I swear on my life I did not enhance her eyes! She's stunning!

I love the challenge of coming up with how I'm going to photograph each new client. With each outfit change I always mix things up and customize the shooting space to go with the outfit and mood we're after. Carli's session was a perfect example of the range of shooting I do.
Carli brought some surprising get-ups to studio, including a German beer wench outfit and her 911 dispatcher uniform. The image with the tulle tutu on her head was my idea--a left over prop from a ballet shoot we did a while back. I thought we could go for a Russian winter princess, which was challenging because we were laughing so hard.
And with that Ladies and Gents, I present the lovely Carli.

Beth came to the studio way back in October (yes, I'm way behind blogging) but I thought I'd share her beautiful visage and body (I'll opt to not use the French word for body in this case). Beth is a nurse at Harborview, one of many health care professionals to come to the studio lately (There was a 2 week stretch from Oct-Nov were we almost every client was either a nurse, a PA or a doctor).
Anyway, Beth decided to do a session for the best reason--namely, a celebration of herself!
I'm always so honored when any women chooses me to photograph her, but women who do a session for themselves hold a special place in my heart.
And with that Ladies and Gents, I present Beth!

What’s a boudoir photo shoot like?
Four women bare all about their boudoir sessions with Christina Mallet, photographer and owner of Katrinka’s Secret.

Tracey was in a relationship with a new guy and wanted to give him an unforgettable gift.
A petite, vivacious blonde, she was nearing 50 and in the best shape she’d been in for a while. “It was now or never,” she said, contemplating the various states of undress involved in a boudoir shoot.
When she arrived at the Pioneer Square studio, she brought her sexiest lingerie, Harley Davidson leather chaps, rhinestone belt and heaps of bold, black jewelry from her boyfriend.
“It was like playing big-girl dress up,” Tracey said. “I loved the session! Christina’s studio was exactly what I’d hoped for with her props, music, champagne and all of the stuff I’d brought. In my favorite picture, I’m standing barefoot against a brick wall, hand on hip, my motorcycle gear layered over black lingerie. Christina perfectly captured me as one tough-looking biker babe!”
Despite her on-camera chutzpah, Tracey had some serious pre-session jitters. “I had never done anything like this before and had no idea what to expect. I even brought a girlfriend with me, because I didn't want to get into a sketchy situation. "
“But I felt an instant connection to Christina. I knew the photos would be totally classy. And when I got them, what a boost to my self-esteem! I’ll look at the poster-size picture in my bedroom when I'm 60, 70, and 80 and say to myself, ‘Damn, I was hot!’”

Rachel, recently married, scheduled a shoot because her husband had hinted he’d like sexy pictures of her.
Before arriving for her appointment, she was incredibly nervous. “I was worried about getting a sexy expression on my face,” she said, “and I felt self-conscious and a little intimidated. I figured Christina had seen a million hot women. ”
The fears faded fast, though, once Rachel realized she had to just let it go. “I tried to imagine I was a hot supermodel – a secret dream of mine. And Christina helped so much. She’s very professional and easy to be with. Her attitude and energy are great, and we laughed a lot. It ended up being so fun. ”

Both Rachel and her husband loved the images.
“If I had to pick my favorite, it would be one where I’m in the stairway against a wall wearing a white tank top and lacy underwear. Christina splashed water on me and started working that camera like you wouldn’t believe. When my husband saw the series, he said, ‘Wow, you're so sexy. ’"

Leonie looked at the Katrinka Secret’s website a gazillion times (or thereabout) before finally scheduling a session.
“I am very self conscious,” said the young woman with an urban, alternative edge. “Going to the shoot was hard. But I knew if I did boudoir photography, I might see myself in a different light. Find myself more appealing. ”
After arriving at the studio, Christina reassured Leonie that lots of women are uncomfortable at first. Once the session started, she’d relax. “And I did!” Leonie said. “I felt alive! Christina helped by smothering me with compliments, ultimately making this experience perfect. ”
Leonie’s pin-up girl look, created with penciled lids and bold lips, by makeup artist Lauren, meshed just right with the studio’s historic feel. She and her boyfriend loved her photos. “He makes me feel beautiful and I wanted to take photos for him because I knew that he would appreciate it. ”
Kathryn hired Christina more as a gift to herself than for her man.
“I saw Katrinka’s Secret featured in Daily Candy,” she said. “I was getting older and curvier. I wanted to embrace my body, to empower myself as a wife, mom of two kids and 45-year-old woman. The pictures in Daily Candy were so enticing, I thought, ‘I can do that!’”
For her, boudoir photography was “liberating and fun,” she said. “Christina acted like my walking around near naked was completely normal. I don’t wear a lot of lingerie, so putting on sexy, pretty things and realizing my body, exactly as it is, is beautiful – well, how amazing is that?”
Though Kathryn was motivated to do boudoir photography for her own enjoyment, her husband loved her pictures as well. “He thinks they’re totally hot,” she said. “I showed my pictures to my friends, too, and they are jealous and wish they had the guts to do it. Everyone wants to know who the great photographer is. ”
”I tell them, ‘Do it!’” said Kathryn. “Christina is a professional artist with a knack for putting you at ease. Best of all, she gives you a gift that can’t be replicated. To me, that makes boudoir photography worth everything. ”
