Last weekend I finally got to test out the lens that has been haunting my dreams for the past few months – the canon 50mm f/1.4 is in my opinion one of the most perfect lenses for portraits, and recently I’ve been “blog stalking” photographers who use this lens to gain as much inspiration and advice as I could. Downtown LA Engagement Shoot

As a fan of Art Deco, our photographer Chris had a field day with this location, and turned an ordinary shoot into a truly filmic collection of images that any movie stills photographer would be proud of. He was of course helped along by the fact that this gorgeous couple have acting and theatrical backgrounds, and turned up in outfits looking hot-to-trot… the significance of this majestic location clearly not lost on them!

Wedding in Irvine, CA

Weddings are tricky events to photograph at the best of times, and who would have thought that a So Cal wedding would be blessed with rain outside of the Jan – Feb showers? The heavens were clearly rejoicing when Phil and Denise tied the knot in early December – but the eternally talented Jacob really turned a tricky situation into a creative opportunity with this gorgeous rain drenched portrait. Happy Couples always make for the best wedding portraits, and Phil and Denise were such troopers despite the dodgy weather conditions.

Laguna Beach Pre Wedding Photography

Just before Thanksgiving, we sent Jacob to shoot Jamie and Charlie’s engagement session at the Montage Resort in Laguna Beach. Despite it never raining in California it was forecast for rain on the afternoon of their shoot – but these two are obviously charmed – and the weather remained glorious! Jacob said that they were THE perfect couple to photograph as they were so laid back and easy going – in fact Jacob was so pleased with the shoot he stayed up all night to edit every single shot – clearly consumed by the creative passion – nice work!
