Tomorrow is earth day, and we (Jesse and I) plan to join millions around the world to "turn off the lights" for an hour from 8-9 p. m. to make a statement regarding climate changes. Earth Hour will demonstrate that by working together, each one of us can make a positive impact on this global issue. Governments, business, communities and individuals on six continents will participate in Earth Hour and agree to "make changes that will curb their carbon dioxide emissions". We can all can make a difference!

Plus---It will be romantic to sit in the dark or by candlelight for awhile---I think we'll make a green dinner and open a bottle of organic wine. . .

Anyone go to Becker's party? We were planning on it but with the power outage at Mandalay Bay, we never made it up. Check out the last photo on Jesse's lastest blog entry. The power was out at the Mandalay casino---I mean out! It was kind of surreal. . . .

I'm taking a girls' photographer trip to Paris and Ireland with the lovely Paige Elizabeth and hopefully the great Regina Mountjoy of Recherche Photography. We plan to meet with some wedding planners out there as well as gather some resources so that one day we might shoot some weddings in Europe (My personal dream is to operate Julie Harris Photography out of Paris from November through April each year). In order to do this however we need a portfolio. . . . Does anybody know any models or friends in Paris or Ireland that might be interested in participating in a trash the dress or engagement session? Or are any of you based there? We'd love to set up some meetings! We'd also be interested in doing a free wedding in either of these places. Anyone eloping??

The dates are as folllows: We'll be in Paris from the 1st of March thru the 8th and then in Galway from the 8th through the 11th, flying back to Denver on the 12th.

Feel free to email me or leave a comment here. Thanks for any leads you can send our way!

I'm just writing this to somewhat sort through my feelings about the death of Heath Ledger. I'm not sure why I'm so affected by this, but I was in tears when I heard the news. I was a huge fan of his work and always had a bit of a crush on him. In fact, he looked a lot like my husband. . . .

Obviously, I don't know much about Heath but I've read articles and heard that he was a super cool, down to earth guy. He actually lived in Brooklyn next to a project in 2005 instead of choosing to live in a posh Manhanttan penthouse. I thought that was a really cool thing about him. . . . just something to think about, I guess. . .

Does anyone out there watch "The Shot" on VH1?? I'm not much for reality TV shows, but my friend Tracy made me watch an episode and I'm now an addict! It's so fun to see what scenario the contestants will be put up to each week. . . "15 minutes to get a money shot with a model and a real tarantula", or "Nail a sensual image after a massive food fight". My favorite episode yet might have been when the photographers were asked to hang off a cliff to get an action shot of a rock climber. I just love to see what each individual artist comes up with---everybody has a completely different approach to the shoot. It's pretty inspiring, believe it or not!

Maybe photographik can start coming up with assignments like this and hold contests. I'd love to see what we could all come up with! Thoughts?

Sometimes I'm just all out of fresh ideas!

I wanted to be first but Deb beat me to it!

If there were ever a photographer who gets a kick out of the reception follies, it's me. Hell, I have an outtakes section on my website featuring blunders and bloopers. However. . . . there is a fine line between what is funny to us, and well, what the bride and groom may want to have captured on film.

Back in September, my assistant and I were kind of just hanging out at a reception. Cake cutting had been done. First dance, father daughter dance, toasts etc had all been checked off the "must do at the reception list". And by this time in the night all that had transpired since the must do's was a whole lotta drinkin and dancing. We were cracking up at the outrageous nature of some of the guests and even of the behavior of the bride and groom. We thought, " should we really be getting photos of this"? A short glance at each other and then, "Absolutely"!! They are paying us to do so and I'll gladly act as the paparazzi at somebody's wedding if I'm on the clock, but do the bride and groom and their families really want to remember some of these things that happen as the night goes on and the liquor is flowing? It was the next day that I came up with "Top 10 Signs that it's time for the photographer to retire for the evening"

These are in no particular order. . .

1. ) Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard is definitely a sure sign that the evening is starting to take a different turn. Don't get me wrong. . . I love Def Leppard and I played it at my own wedding. . . but there is something about bad 80's butt rock that brings out the worst in people our age. Are we 15 again?? I want my leather. . . .

2. ) Mom and Dad start grinding. (Especially if they're divorced)

3. ) Grown men start skipping. . . . and when I say skipping, I actually mean the frolicking, happy skipping that we do as school kids. This is not too bad when a girl does it across the dance floor, but when the groom does it. . . ? Hmmmmm. I've actually seen this and I almost peed my pants! It seriously came out of nowhere. . . the groom just kinda skipped out onto the dance floor. This is more for the videographer to capture than me. I can't really seem to catch the whole action in one shot. I sure wish I could----but does the Groom want to remember that he was acting like a smurf on the night of his wedding?

4. ) The bride starts to peel the chicken cutlets off her breasts and removes them from under her dress (usually while on the dance floor). "They're just so uncomfortable". Same goes for pantyhose.

5. ) Bridesmaids are puking. This one actually offends me. . . . I wouldn't take the first dance shot at a wedding once until somebody cleaned up the puke on the floor. I wasn't going to slide around in it!!!

6. ) "Summer Days" from Grease starts up and the men and women are actually participating and singing to each other across the room.

7. ) Dollar dance. Not funny. Just obnoxious (in my humble opinion).

8. ) If Pole or table dancing starts to look really fun for the guests, it's time for us to pack up.

9. ) Girls Gone Wild. Wow! I've seen it all. . . The guy who films all those ridiculous videos would blush at some of the things I've seen go on between some of the ladies after too many glasses of champagne.

10. ) DJ is out on the floor playing air guitar (this time to White Snake).

gotta anymore for me??? I want to print these out for my future clients---hopefully with some imagery to accent the point.
