Kristen & Rob on Boathouse Row

No, do not adjust your teevee set and no, this is not Groundhog Day. I was back on Boathouse Row for another engagement session and this time it was Kristen and Rob who are getting married this fall at the beautiful Hotel DuPont.

We already started discussing our plans for the wedding day and I’m getting charged up for this one!

Melissa and Dan at the Paxon Hollow Country Club

The vicious storms rolled passed just before the wedding of Melissa and Dan. We had to brave downed trees and power outages but everything came through in the end. The girls thought so and let out with a laugh. Maybe my zipper was down?

Dan cut quite a dashing figure.

Limo windows can usually be counted on for really great light.

I’m kind of glad that St Thomas of Villanova kicked us out after the ceremony to make way for another wedding because I got to shoot formals in a much better spot than the altar. The slight haze made this look like a backdrop!

Then it was off to the Paxon Hollow Country Club. Stinking hot but good light!

I have to give a special thanks to my second shooter, Lauren Libor as well as my trusty assistant, Mark Deniken and the awesome guys at Schaffer Sound.

Valerie and Charlie on Boathouse Row

The weather was hot but the light was awesome (it’s awesome everyday if you know where to look!) for Valerie’s and Charlie’s e-session at Boathouse Row. I was glad to be able to get away from such typical locations as the nearbyPhiladelphia Museum of Art and the Waterworks.

The awesome people at the Vesper Boat Club allowed us to do a few shots on and around their dock.

Booathouse Row is always buzzing with activity but if you pay attention, you can make it look like you’re the only ones there.

Wow, you can just tell that Valerie really loves Charlie!

Great light and big, red doors. What more could you ask?

The rowers were still out on this hot day. Ugh!

I’m so glad when I get to do engagement sessions with my couples. It’s sort of like a practice session for the big day in November. Their photos are gonna be hot!

Rebecca & Dan at Winterthur

Squeezed in a very fun and successful engagement session with Rebecca and Dan before some nasty thunderstorms are due to arrive. We headed down to Winterthur which is the penultimate location for photos.

What awesome, storybook light! Rebecca and Dan will be getting hitched at the Greenville Country Club next June.

Kristin & Rob at the Piazza

Kristin and Rob are huge Phillies fans so for their engagement session, I really had to knock it out of the park, especially the day after Roy Halladay pitched a perfect game. So we headed over to the Piazza at Schmidts where the Phillies were playing on the jumbotron.

They’re both so playful and it’s not hard for Rob to make Kristin laugh so shooting them was a breeze.

Beautiful light and settings everywhere.

Just had to get one more shot of the Phillies red shoes!

Shootin’ Up the Place With Béke, Dar and Catie

Just got done another amazing shoot with Béke Beau, Dar Clinton and wardrobe stylist, Catie Joyce. Our models Alex and Star were incredible!

And I have to give an super-big thanks to Krista Valla who was an incredible help all day and was extremely patient with my artistic vision ).

Super Monday Follow-Up

Yahoo! Another successful Super Monday workshop! This time we had a full house of 10 participants coming from as far away as Ohio. We had a natural-light-shootin’, coffee-drinkin’, bagel-eatin’ good time and learned a few things about light and how to find it.

The whole idea was how to simplify shooting by playing the hand you are dealt. Sometimes we don’t shoot at the Hotel DuPont with our brides dressing in rooms with floor to ceiling windows on two sides. And sometimes we just don’t have Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue sunlight. But by looking for reflected, diffused and directional light, you can nail it in-camera, walk away looking like the pro that you are and make your post-processing life easier, too.

And just to prove the point that it can be done, we did the whole workshop in and around my house. I purposely didn’t pick some cool location with lots of distracting scenery because in real life, you sometimes don’t get it. F’rinstance, this one was shot in front of my house with light reflected off the siding. I tilted Alyssa’s chin down a bit so she didn’t get sunlight hitting her nose from the noon sun.

Julile and Patrick at Hershey's Mill

We really dodged a bullet with the weather at Julie’s and Pat’s wedding last weekend. But at the end of the day, we got some really fun and beautiful photos. The people at Hershey’s Mill were really nice and Schaffer Sound pumped that room full of beats!

Special thanks (again) to Mark Deniken and to Nick Gould. I couldn’t have pulled it off without them.

Natalie + David + Beautiful Weather

Winter is behind us and the weather is perfect for engagement sessions! Natalie and David met me at the Schmidts Piazza in Northern Liberties yesterday for an awesome session.

Yes, I actually convinced the owners of the property to let me show a live slideshow of Natalie and David while shooting! (not!)

Caught some great light bouncing between two buildings so we worked with it for a little while.

Hmmm, there was this old scooter just sitting there on the sidewalk … well, better to ask forgiveness than permission, I always say!

Natalie and David are pulling out all the stops for their September 2010 wedding at the Hotel DuPont. Looking forward to that one!
