Pricing for wedding photography varies greatly; just like the great variety of styles and approaches to wedding photography that exist in the marketplace.

On this site, for example, you will find photographers' starting prices anywhere from $1500 to over $7000. Why the big gap? Well, there are a few reasons for that.

Ever hear the saying that you get what you pay for? In many instances, more expensive wedding photography prices do indicate a higher quality service and quality. The more expensive photographers often are at the top of their game and create truly memorable and beautiful wedding photos for their clients. They charge the wedding photography prices they do because they believe they are worth that amount of money and because, in many cases, their clients will pay that price.

Nevertheless, there are a plethora of wedding photographers in the $2500 to $3500 price range who are just as skilled, talented and competent as the photographers who start at 6 or 7k. Their marketing may be minimal initially and thus they need to "start low" in order to build a buzz around their business and gain a clientele. Of course, many of these photographers hope to up their pricing over time (when they feel they can charge and get that sort of compensation).

Think of it this way: some people are happy to purchase an expensive, luxurious and prestigious BMW or Audi because of the perceived higher quality and brand prestige of that sort of automobile. Others are primarily interested in a solid, efficient car that does the job without all the bells and whistles. And still others want to find a happy middle: high quality and a more affordable price.

So in the case of wedding photography prices, it is really all about what you are most interested in and what you are willing to spend. However, the great thing about wedding photography is that you can, in a sense, "sample the goods" before making your purchase. Reviewing your potential photographer's online portfolio and sample wedding albums should help you get a feel for the photographer's quality of work and figure out whether or not their wedding pricing is appropriate for you.

It's your wedding. And out of the myriad decisions you will make in planning one of the biggest and most important days of your life, hiring the right photographer may very well be the most important.
